Dance with me inside a dream
Where red-tipped shadows play.
Sit with me beside a stream
Where silver birches sway
In that same breeze that breathes across
Black jagged mountain rock,
But if you feel compelled to tell
Me promises, don’t talk.
Lie with me beneath the sky
While midnight wears away,
Watching shooting stars fly by…
Don’t promise me you’ll stay.
You speak to me of loyalty.
You say it will not die.
Perhaps you mean no treachery.
Perhaps you do not lie,
But twists in your tomorrows
Or the changes in the air
Can softly sink in sorrows
All the promises you swear…
A promise shines like glass, beneath
The white light of the moon,
And when it breaks, it cuts the heart,
And blood pours from the wound.
So seal your lips, and do not say
The words I’ve heard before —
That you will never go away…
For I can bear no more.
And if you cast me, like a cloak
Of diamond-woven light,
Into the boundless black expanse
Of the eternal night,
And eons later, if you find
And, in the dark, retrieve me,
This will be your choice. Not mine.
Don’t say you’ll never leave me.

Wow. That made my day. In fact it really cheered me up after hearing that my mailbox is full again! (Remember my mailbox poem? Haha). I really really appreciate it.

“But twists in your tomorrows
Or the changes in the air
Can softly sink in sorrows
All the promises you swear.”
is my favorite stanza
best line (in that it stopped me) is, “Where red-tipped shadows play.”
very nicely written anna, it speaks of a truth I have felt at times.

hello,
perhaps try a poem that doesn’t rhyme…a challenge of sorts.

You’ve had the depth of understanding structure of logic lines that make your poems flow effortlessly like a river to the sea, Anna. I truly enjoy reading your poems as you are indeed a wordsmith and storyteller in the best sense of the word.
I love this poem. I want to buy it from you..;>

Again, you show your control over the language in your new poems here. I am actually with Mr Summers here. I would love to see what you would be capable of if you threw of the strictures of end rhyme. There are so many other ways to structure a poem and I think you definitely have the craftswomanship to write something in a different form. Plus, as Janet says, you have that talent for story-telling, too. I, for one, would look forward to the results 🙂
Kind regards,
Ario

But if you feel compelled to tell
Me promises, don’t talk.
That is my favorite part. Really heartfelt and emotionally honest work you are posting here.
I feel like I get to know you better and better each time I read one of your poems.

It’s okay. I tried to answer your email but the address was input wrong or something and then I had to go …
On the rhymes, I did write some non-rhyming when I was about 9 or so. I have to see if they are on this blog otherwise I can add them when I have a chance. I am not much a fan of writing without rhyme but will keep your suggestion in mind!

Hee hee, yah, S. Thomas Summers, repetition sort of makes you *sniff, sniff* come across as a haughty taskmaster – but I love it! [I’ve done it on a number of occasions and felt really stupid when I realized what I’d done..:)

Made me immediatly think of “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” –Mark Twain
